At this workshop, you will be supported to write an evidence-based and impactful submission to a public inquiry into pig welfare in Victoria. This could be a rare opportunity to influence government policy on animal welfare.
We will first present for around 45 mins about the opportunity and provide materials to help you prepare a submission. Submissions can be written in 30 mins to 2 hours, depending on how much time you would like to allocate.
On Saturday 6 January 2024, Effective Animal Advocacy Australia (EAAA) is holding an online workshop to help you make an informed submission to the Parliament of Victoria Economy and Infrastructure Committee’s current public inquiry on pig welfare in Victoria (which is accepting submissions until 12 January 2024).
This inquiry considers existing regulations, stun methods, outcomes of the 2017 sow stall phase-out, breeding and housing practices and international standards, and represents an opportunity to directly influence recommendations which will be made to the Victorian government. Over 1 million pigs are farmed per year in Victoria, and Victoria’s welfare standards often fall far behind that of international jurisdictions.
At this workshop we will present some background and the opportunity to have an impact through your submission, and afterwards you’ll have time to ask questions, discuss and write your submission (you can also continue writing after the workshop until the submission due date). No prior knowledge is required, we will help guide you through the process. We have consulted with and been informed by subject matter experts in this process.
You can learn more about the animal welfare governance, outcomes, and community expectations in these two videos:

Please feel free to share this workshop with anyone interested, all are welcome!
Please note: Whilst this inquiry is focused on Victoria, we have confirmed that submissions will be accepted from all around Australia and from outside Australia. Submissions from outside Australia will need to be emailed directly to the inquiry email address, which can be found here: https://www.parliament.vic.gov.au/get-involved/inquiries/inquiry-into-pig-welfare-in-victoria
