Book Discussion: ‘Doing Good Better’

Simple summary:
Join us to discuss the book 'Doing Good Better' by Oxford philosopher William MacAskill (the best introduction to effective altruism)!
About the book

What to expect:

  • We will meet at the Vic park community space at 1pm, mingle for a little while. Free plant based snacks and drinks will be provided.

  • At ~1:15pm, we break into discussion groups with prepared facilitators.

  • At 3pm we will wrap up the book discussion.

  • Afterwards, some of us will be heading to Palace Arcade (walking distance) for pizza and games - you're invited to join us.

Who it's for:
This event will be perfect for people interested in making the biggest difference, and who want to learn about the ideas of effective altruism. If you're excited to discuss effective altruism and doing good better, or if you’re completely new to EA Perth and want to learn what we’re about, this event is for you!

How to prepare:

  • Read or listen to as much of the book as you can. It's short, easy and fun. We are giving away free paperback copies at our events. Please comment or message our page if you would like to get a free copy.

  • Here's the free audiobook. Here's the ebook.

  • If you cannot read the book, we strongly recommend at least watching or listening to either of these short introductions before the event: Video or Article (audio option)

Who to bring:
Any friends, family or co-workers who are very interested based on the description of this event. Please RSVP so that we know how many people to expect.

Location:
It’s at Vic Park Community SPACE - 1 Miller Street, Victoria Park. That’s next to Boston Brewing Co and Wilson Parking. NOT the community CENTRE, which is next to Leisurelife - common mistake!

Getting there:
Best Parking: Wilson Parking Vic Quarter is directly connected to venue. There is free parking at the vic park carlisle bowling club, which is a 5 minute walk from the venue.

How to find us:
The room has a huge banner facing the street that says ‘Vic Park Community Space’. Just knock or enter the door - our organisers will be wearing EA shirts. We look forward to seeing you there :)
